The under 25k smartphone segment in India is saturated at best. Vivo V9 is the latest launch from the brand that brings the display notch, which has been become quite popular since Apple launched its iPhone X. In fact, Vivo V9 is the first device available in the Indian market with this feature/hack, although Asus has already made some big announcements. In terms of pricing, the device will compete with the likes of Moto X4 and Oppo F7. How well does it fare and should you really buy Vivo V9? Well, to be fair, this is a decent device, and we take a close look below.
Incredible display and build
Priced at around Rs. 23,000, Vivo V9 is a pretty solid device, especially with regards to build quality and display. It has an aluminum body with the frontal panel covered by the screen entirely. The 6.3-inch FHD+ display is one of the best things about this Vivo device, with a resolution of 1080×2280 pixels. The screen-to-body ratio is close to 90%, which gives a good premium feel and look. Color saturation is perfect, and yes, despite the big screen, V9 is a light device at just 150 grams. While it doesn’t seem as strong as the Moto X4, V9 is not cheap either.
Commendable hardware and battery
V9 gets the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 octa-core processor, which offers good feedback with heavy gaming and usage, with onboard 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. It is possible to expand the memory further up to 256 GB via a microSD card. In terms of software, V9 comes with Android 8.1 straight from the box and runs on the Funtouch OS 4.0 UI of Vivo. The 3260mAh battery is non-removable and offers a day’s charge with average to heavy use. We had no issues playing heavy games, such as Asphalt.
Selfies like a pro
Vivo V9 gets a 24MP camera on the front with a 16MP+5MP setup on the rear. The cameras work as expected, and Vivo lives up to the expectations in that department as usual.
If you have the budget, go for V9, which has good hardware and effective display. Alternatively, you can also opt for Honor 9 lite 64 GB that’s cheaper or others in the same range. We tried using Vivo V9 for photos, work and gaming, and we didn’t face any lags whatsoever. Yes, the hardware could have been better, but for the display and notch, get this one.
